What TV to buy

Quote:I suppose those large screens are OK if you have the space ?
There are recommendations which relate the size of the screen to intended viewing distance. Here is one such chart

We bought a 49" Samsung TV 3 1/2 years ago. We looked at several different makes and models, it was a choice between a flat screen and a curved screen, we thought the curved picture was slightly better and the sales blurb suggested that it had a wider viewing angle for the audience and was liable to less reflections than the flat one. Very happy with it
but there are noticeable reflections.
Also I was unable to connect my expensive and comfortable AKG wired headphones, bluetooth only.

Quote:Interesting, I use headphones 80% of the time. My wife can only take so much of Police Interceptors....... 😮
My wife has hearing problems - especially with English language programmes. Her headphones are independent of the volume I listen at and she can adjust the volume in her headphones to a level that would be intolerable for normal listening through the soundbar, which I use. Perfect for when we watch together.

Just ordered a Philips telly with 'ambilight' - LED's on the rear of the casing cast a glow onto the wall behind refelecting whatever's on the screen at the time. Supposed to be easier on the eyes. Thought it might be a gimmick, thought we'd give it a go anyway because how bad could the picture be, anyway? - turns out one of the guys at my work has one and rates it highly, and another has just bought one too. We're currently waiting.
