I want to buy a good fast photo printer that is economical with ink cartridges that produces great quality images up to A3 size and is generally considered to be good value for money, can anyone give me their opinion please.

I'd definitely say a Canon Pixma iX6550, I have one myself and I love the prints it produces. I use Ilford papers with the Ilford printer profiles and I think thats the best combination for quality/value for money with this printer. Its also quite economic with the inks too Smile

I also selected the ix6550 for the reasons you mention, though I've only used it for A4 text so far as i'm busy elsewhere for a few weeks.

I know it's an A3 machine , but what is the longest length of paper that it can print in custom mode?
My old crap Epson used to have 'unlimited' length, the Pixma ip4300 (A4) does 23" max does the ix6550 have a proportional increase in max print length?
They almost never give that info in reviews which is darned nuisance.

I have an Epson R1900, and have been very happy with it.

Picture quality is superb, speed seems fine to me (how fast do you need??), and while the OEM inks could always be cheaper, you get a reasonable amount of printing for the price (and cheaper 'compatible' carts are available if you wish to reduce costs further)
