Pentax still design cameras with the same emphasis as the ME, viz. good handling, ease of use and great value, so it may be worth your while looking at the new K100D which is getting good reviews (I'm even tempted to buy one myself).

Canon 1Ds MkII build quality not up with Nikon's equivalent I'm afraid (-: but other than that not a bad piece of kit IMHO.

I would like to add the same reply as I did to another cosidering an upgrade from compact to DSLR. I have just upgraded, and my philosophy is to buy yesterdays technology at low prices. I have just upgraded from a canon 350d to a 20d. I know it is not the latest model but at 400 off ebay and in fantastic condition. I will probably keep it for 18 months and when the 5d is replaced and the market becomes awash with them I will upgrade again. Don't forget 18 months ago the 20d was the camera to have.

Thing with Canon is if you buy a Canon 350/400D or 20D/30D and get the lenses that are designed to work with these, ie the EF-S lenses, and you will be stuffed if you want to upgrage to the 5D or 1D. Rumours are that 30D replacement may be full-frame.

So, with Canon, you have to spend more to be 'future-proof'...

A friend has a 20D and found her Sigma lens would not work with that - she could spend 50 euros to get it rechipped but she could still face the same problem when she upgraded down the line.

I'd say get the K100D, and you can still use the lenses from the ME Super (with limitations of course) on it.

Depending on what your budget is, and the functionality you need, you could try a used DSLR they have depreciated so much, current lenses fit them, and they give great pictures and flexibility. i.e. my used 300D Canon cost 1000 with lens in 2004 went on ebay for 271 body only.Chris Brown (Herts)

Im very tempted by the k100D. I need the camera to be very versitile, not after mega pixels, i will not be printing over A3 size.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the Samsung, my understanding is its last years pentax with two lens, cant be all bad.

I don't think there is any difference between a samsung body and the pentax equivalent, but I would stick with pentax branded lenses as I think the samsung versions don't have the SMC coating.
