Who's the drummer's drummer?

Some drumming magazine must have done a poll of drummers to get their opinion on who they think is the best/most influential of all time.

Edit: Some bloke called Neil Peart according to this Best Ever page.

i started out as a drummer and worshipped at the chair of Bonham. Truly great drummers, like any musician, actually go beyond influence - they create a style, or genre, a way of playing that lasts through those that follow - and Bonham did that.

Like Hendrix then.

Listen to him now and he's just another guitarist....until you realise that nobody was doing what he did back in the 60's and ever since then everyone else has been using is style.

Smiles smugly in a kind of "told you so" way (even though I got his surname wrong!)

Not in to Rush then Ian?

A unique, clever and very multi talented band.

Neil Peart was just clever....but very very clinical and souless...so of course he fitted well in Rush

Lol - No, Kris. Brother in law is but it never got me going.

I always liked the heavier rock bands - Maiden, Metallica and Led Zep.

Warning on that Best of List - I just googled Best Drummer and it gave me that. No idea where it's from.

I also like the heavy stuff but I like to listen to clever bands too. Wink

Rush are heavy and clever, or rather they were early on - then they dropped the heavy part.

Neil Peart is technically the best rock drummer and has consistently been voted so over many years in many drumming magazines. Clinical and souless? Only a failed drummer could suggest thatWink

John Bonham was great but I cant forgive him for giving us Jason Bonham.....

Best life for a drummer? Nick Mason - all those millions for padding out a slow 4/4.......

If you want drummining indulgence then look no further than Iron Butterfly - In A Gadda Da Vida - whole side of LP (showing my age)is a drum solo, and a good one at that.

In A Gadda Da Vida was awarded the industry's very first "Platinum Album"! and I bet very few on this site have ever heard of it !!

Actually Money was in 7/8 time. But the best drummer for me is most definitely Buddy Rich. You can't beat a bit of synchopation.

Excuse the pun.

Of course it's impossible, to know the answer to 'Who is the best Drummer' as no one, can possibly have heard them all :-0/
