why are there so many cormorants around??

hi
recently i have noticed a dramatic rise in cormorants on my river as i regularly see 5 diving together! and fly together?

I haven't seen any cormorants in the Birmingham canals :}

Was sat down by Marlow bridge this morning and one was sat on the weir airing his wings, looked amazing through the mist.

Its because there is a shortage of fish in the sea (overfishing) so they come to inland rivers.
Another consequence of mans greed.
