Quote: or us mere mortals unable to afford the EOS 1DS mk2 this is the holy grail of current DSLR tecnology, but it would be nice if it were as robustly built as a D200.

You've obviously never used a 1D series then....
I changed from Nikon D2x's to Canon 1D series in october last year and haven't looked back, better made, better weather sealed, better quality (especially at high ISOs) and a hell of a lot faster to boot. Was shooting with a pair of 1DMKIIN's at 6400iso last night at Bristol / Bucharesti rugby match and the results was fantastic - could only have dreamt of those results off a Nikon.

Who ever makes the best and most affordable flagship will be top dog and sell the lower ranges most easily.

I think you need to re-read my response, I am quite aware of the 1d series being the best built cameras around but meant that for those who cant afford these and settle on the EOS 5D, which is very close in image quality, it would be nice if it was a well made and environmentally sealed like the Nikon D200.
