Windows 10 Updates

Before Windows 10 my computer used to update automatically. Since W10 I'm not sure if this is happening as I can't find out where to check. I've typed in Windows Updates in the Seach box and clicked on Check for Updates, but the page just hangs with blue dots going across the screen. It never resolves.

I've looked on line but can't see anything that I understand to try. Has anyone got any tips please?
Thank you.

My last updates came through yesterday, took a while to download even with a fairly fast internet connection, I often have to go into updates to get them to load even though I have Automatic enabled.

I think updates on W10 is more geared up to working in the background so you can leave it to do its thing

Click on the start button,> settings, >update and security, >advanced options, >view your update history, a list
of installed updates and the date they were installed will be shown.

Thanks David, but here's the thing. I don't have anything that says Advanced Options. The page running in the background is the diagnostics from MS, but it's been like this for about 2 hours.

You will have to wait for the diagnostic scan to complete, hopefully it is checking your update history and downloading
and installing any outstanding updates, these scans, as you are finding out, can take some time.

Well the Troubleshooter gave me a list of things but said Issue not Present against each of them.
I still can't see where I can find the list of Updates is though. It used to be so easy in Windows 7.

Chris,
Click on the magnifying glass icon next to the start button and type "Settings" into the search box that appears.

In the next window, click on "Update and security." (Bottom RHS.)

That should take you to this:

Yes Jester. I've tried all that. That's where I expected things to be, but there's nothing there except what I uploaded in my screen grab. I click on Windows Upates and all I get is the blue dots, which go on for hours. Also, I have no magnifiying glass next to the Windows button.
Sad

Thanks anyway. At least now I know what it's supposed to look like. I think my updates window is stuck but I don't know how to unstick it. Sad

Presumably, you've tried the obvious; turn it off and back on?
