Quote:Brand new laptop arrived today - with Windows 10.

Does anyone know what actual operational advantages there are to Windows 11. I.e. apart from features most people will never actually use!

Any good links will be nice.Smile

Ongoing security updates and patches.
Once older OS move to unsupported any subsequently identified issues would not be acted upon.

This apparently . . .

Whether or not that makes any difference to you . . . ?

Interesting article. I didn't understand a word of it unfortunately so I am none the wiser.

Now it seems that their app to check if it would work didn't work itself...

There's hope yet for your laptop Hobbo!

With the move to a central start button and a black background this look much more smart TV like in its appearance. Will future TV's have Win11 OS's or will Win11 PClaptops become TV's.

PCs are much more than pure computing devices and perhaps the fusion of entertainment and work is getting even closer with 4K UHD screens and even perhaps 8K TV's in a few years.

I know I sometimes long for a proper keyboard on my smart TV when trying to search for particular film or series titles. Of course talking to the TV would be even easier - "Hi TV please play the next episode of Rankin's photography challenge."

Well this was what I was looking at. But you would need a USB socket on the TV.

Sky Q is your answer, has a voice control you can use to search etc.

My TPM shows version 1.6 (dated 9-21-2016). I expect that's when I bought the computer. Can't see anywhere that would allow me to update to Version 2, so I suppose I'll keep on with Win10 untill it goes the way of all things.

It may be possible to update it. Here's a Microsoft link (not related to win 11 but to updating for win 10):

Thanks Pete. I read through it but think I'll just stick with what I've got as I don't trust myself not to mess up. In my experience, anything that can go wrong when I try these things, does. Blush

Don't buy a new PC - get a PC subscription instead and run it in the cloud - https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/14/22575064/microsoft-windows-365-cloud-pc-launch-date-price-features
Although only a business offering so far, if MS can pull off this hosted desktop offering its great. Less power needed, less devices thrown to upgrade to new ones and still we get the latest secure product offerings Smile

Rock on Windows 365.
