Is anybody else taking part in the World Pinhole Day?

I am, and I know of one other member on here that has a penchant for pinhole photography, who will be taking part.

A practice run it is, now for the sad confession, my pinhole camera at the moment is my 40D, I made (in the best Blue Peter tradition) a pinhole body cap for my camera. I have always meant to convert a compact camera to that use, I might still get time.

Does that count or is it cheating too much?

My plan was Nash point this afternoon.

ooooh your're going to get some nasty views of sensor dust! Grin Blue Peter tradition is the best, mine is home made (apart from the polaroid back) more black tape on it than anything else Grin

I had a go at making a pinhole body cap lens on the weekend for my D200. I made the hole too big though so everything is blurry....and it shows up any crap on the sensor something rotten...I think I'd better give it a clean before I try again and make a smaller hole...
Interesting though...

My pinhole is made from the foil that scalpel blades come in... it is stronger than normal foil so it is easier to make a smaller hole and also is a bit more durable. You could drill a larger hole in a cap and position something like that behind... that way you can experiment with larger/smaller hole sizes.

Mark That is what I did. I drilled a hole in the cap, then taped some foil over the inside of the cap and made the smallest pin hole I could.

I have a couple of upgrades to do.

1 Copper tape as like the foil you mention it is thicker.
2 Experiment with usin a Coke tin to make the hole in
3 Look at placing the pin hole on the end of a tube in the lens cap to reduce the focal length. Its @ 80mm at the moment I calculated.

And yes it shows the sensor dirt up like nothing else can.

I also went down the hole in a body cap with the hole behind it route.
I used part of a beer can though ( hey, it was all I had to hand... ). I did it for the very reason that Mark states.
When I get my hole size sorted I might mess about with multiple holes to see what effects one can get ( or off centre holes maybe.. )
Can you get adhesive metallic / tin tape ? that would be useful, could stick it to the inside before making a hole then...

Screwfix has a few different rolls of adhesive metal tapes.

Adjusting the focal length is useful. I was thinking about making a pinhole zoom, but then decided that was far too much work at the time. Smile

I stuck my pin-hole cap onto my extension tubes to get some 'zoom' on it. Worked OK.
