About time I bought a flashgun.
Pretty much settled on Yongnuo 560 or 565
Just want to be clear- if I have it off camera will I need a trigger or will my canon 650d fire the flash with the built in flash?

Hi Alan,

I have the 560 II which is manual only. the 565 is TTL so can be automated.

the 560 definitely has slave capability so it can be triggered by the on camera (pop up) flash

the 565 should also have slave capability with on camera flash, but it would be better to contact the seller/manufacturer for guidance.

Thank you Luciano. I wonder whether the TTL is worth the extra for my purposes. Very much the beginner and always tempted to pay extra "just in case I need the extra facilities" might go for the 560 and if I feel I need the TTL later get that and have the 560 as a second light. Decisions decisions Smile

I have the 565EX and uses it with my Canon 650D. It is fully compatible with the Canon wireless flash system in manual or TTL mode. I wrote a short piece about it on my blog. Note, it does not support high speed sync. Everything else just works.

Yes, TTL is worth it. You can get the 565EX for 70 from Amazon.
