Zeiss lens difference

Looking for a bit of advice on my 2 Zeiss lenses.
I use the Nikon Z7with the FTZ adapter. When I attach the Distagon 21mm ZF2. I can control the aperture via the ring on the lens and within the camera.
When I attch the Zeiss 100mm F2 Planar ZF2 lens. I have to lock aperture ring at F22. then only use in camera control?
Is this normal. I thought the ZF2 models could all do both ? Is there a way to get to use the aperture ring?

The ZF2 lenses have a built-in CPU just like the autofocus Nikon optics.

The behaviour that the OP reports is exactly what I would expect.

I understand that. But why is the 21mm ZF2 different? I do not have to lock the aperture ring.

Nikon and Zeiss have different control systems in different lenses.
Only Zeiss can help explain why the 100mm is not fully compatible with Nikon Z.
