Comments about this group.
I'm new to this group... I love photography and take all kinds of photos... (Wildlife, Lanscapes, Nudes etc.. When it comes to nudes I use only myself as the main subject of my nude photos. The only drawback from being your own model is that I am limited in my exposure of my indentity. So I try to enjoy my work and keep myself from being recongnized. I have alot to lose , but don't want to give up doing what I love.... I try to transform my photos into unusual erotic art forms. Hope that I can add some unique photos to this group... Thank you... C

Cat I looked at your gallery, and I am impressed. Nice artistic work! You have a good eye.
As far as the nudes, I suggest you look at Andreas Bitesnitch's work. On Form was the book I am thinking of that might help. There are male nude specialists though. Maybe try Model Mayhem. Here is a list there called Outstanding Male Form that should help you (you will need to join to see some of the nudes):
Most of all, I say try to have fun with it. Be experimental. Try not to constrict yourself. Use the images you find to get some inspiration and find some great poses to try, but don't be afraid to try something totally new and experimental. That's how we allow our creativity to flow freely, right? After all, how often do you have the opportunity to have a man pose nude for you? Make the most of it. Try not to be nervous. I don't suggest you start drinking, but maybe one glass of wine or a beer at the beginning of the shoot will relax you both.
I remember when I started photographing the female form. (I was not so much trying to create sculpture-like poses as beautiful, innocent glamor nudes.) It was quite an experience the first few shoots. I was SO nervous. I was worried about this and that, and it took me a long time to realize that I just needed to experiment. Then I started learning more and more. I bought a few books, and I was off to the races. Here is a couple of instructional books that might help:
. . . and here is a book of male nudes that might help (but probably no better than the photos in that list above:
I occasionally run a male nudes class (http://www.pavilionphotographicstudio.co.uk/classes/male-nude-photography-a-studio-workshop/), but we're hardly on your doorstep.
I'll be honest - it's a difficult class for me to sell enough places to make it viable, so I'm not likely to schedule it again for at least another 6 months.
Male nudes are a challenging subject - especially the posing. Are your friends fit and athletic? Having someone who knows how to pose makes it easier to get started.
If you do want/feel as if you want to explore this subject, great, you are already halfway there with having two readymade subjects. That is the trick I think would be to treat them as subjects
rather than two people of the opposite sex, and relax, enjoy.
Hi, came across this group as I am trying to get advice/tips on shooting the nude! Twice now I have been approached by distant friends asking if I would think about doing shots of them nude. After a bit of initial shock, I had never given it a second thought, I am thinking about it. But I want to do my research and have found this really quite challenging. There is obviously a fine line between artistic and not so artistic, I definitely want to stay behind the artistic line. What I haven't said yet is they two people that approached me were men, and I have found this really hard in getting tips for posing the nude male. Tonnes of advice for nude women that all seems to be fine and artistic but when you tackle men it seems a bit taboo. Where on earth do I start with getting ideas on poses. I like the idea of black & white and also the idea of less is more. Any points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I really want to do my research to make sure both myself and the subject are comfortable with going forward with the idea of a shoot. Also any recommendations for a workshop or course.
I have recently been able to photograph the nude, (thanks to John Duder of this group and EPZ ) Monochrome is perfect for this subject matter, evocative, provocative and exciting !!
I looked for a group where people post nudes, and I didn't see one, so I figured I would start one. Hopefully this will bring together photographers who shoot art nudes, so they can share their work and techniques.
