GI Joe

By pentaxpete
GI Joe was taken at Bewdley Station during the Severn Valley Railway 1940's weekend - I remember the white tapes on the windows of our house in Manor Park, East London to stop the glass coming in if a bomb dropped nearby. When my Dad was a Naval Picket in London I was taken there near the end of the war to see him - an American Officer came out - I ran up to him and asked:"Got any GUM, Chum?" - well my Dad was annoyed said "You mustn't talk to Officers like that Son " but the GI bent down and gave me some Wrigleys - " Sure, Sonny, here you are then" - well, I was very pleased as Gum was a prized possession ! - I must have been about 7 or 8 years old then ...... memories.....

Yes, I know his foot was cut BUT I forgot to allow for parallax when I was using the rangefinder Fed camera - my Leica M2 and M6 rangefinders have a frame which moves as does the Rollei and it compensates for parallax .... Peter.
