Hello and welcome to the beginners group meeting place.

If you want to compare notes and images with other beginners this is the place to be.

What is a beginner? - I guess this special interest group is open to anyone who feels they are starting out or perhaps that they have been around for awhile but still have much to learn.

Maybe like me they are just new (ish) to digital photography, maybe they find PS and PSP intimidating even though they are an accomplished photographer. All are welcome.

OK - so lets start uploading and lets start sharing our challenges and maye share some best practice and new ideas.

What a great and varied set of images we have as the first ones submitted to the group! Great start everyone! Well done!

Ok this special interest group is being asked to define entry criteria (see the main forum entry) and this I think brings us full circle to where Lees OP strated the whole thing.

But rather than revisit that lets just say that beginner can mean:

new to digital
new to photography
new to DSLR
new to SLR

What do we mean by new? Well I think we should resist anything definitive here and just say this is self assessed. Maybe even we should have thought a littl emore about the use of alternative terms like 'Improvers' or Entry Level Group - but I guess now we are stuck with beginners (and not begginers thank goodness!!).

I am trying to figure out what the point of these meetings is ... not just this one but the whole concept. So you upload your photo to a particular meeting which just seems to be another way of categorising your photos. There doesn't seem to be any constructive discussion or criticism, helpful hints, or anything of a similar nature being offered in any of the meetings. I thought that was the point?

I believe it is the point Xiaoli. This group just got started before Christmas though and I don't think has managed to get fully underway due to the Christmas break. What kind of helpful hints are you after? I only got my first DSLR on Christmas Day, so I too will be in need of helpful hints - although I haven't had chance to work out in what specific areas yet (I should imagine all)! Constructive criticism and discussion is definitely one of the purposes and I would hope that this will evolve once this meeting has had chance to establish itself.

Help .....

Although I love photography and have a Canon AE1 and a Fuji point and shoot, I am saving hard for a digital SLR, which may take a couple of months. Can you let me know what nights you meet cos I would love to join in once I've bought a camera and as you're local any helpful hints would definately come in handy.

Is this group going to be a long term thing cos I'd like to join if it is. If thats possible?

Many thanks
