Retouching photographs

I was looking for a way of learning more about (mostly fashion) image retouching; and as i can't see any groups on ePz have started this one.
So I'm not a teacher but am very keen to learn along side others if you want to share.

I've only PS6, so do have a Photoshop biased view but doubt that will matter too much.

Does anyone else want to play?

Frequency Separation

Think I posted this in the wrong place - but thought I might try again to get it right :$:$ Stuart I'm not sure if you are aware of Frequency Separation. I certainly wasn't until I watched a RetouchPro tutorial on Saturday given by Scott Alexander. Having now watched a Phlearn video on YouTube...

JackAllTogSo its been a good few days since the last post about the real retouching book, i'd got to page 21 and it had said STOP if you don't know how to use the pentool, Now i've tried this a few time and think i'm getting a bit of a hang of it. Full on retouching is for people with time and patience, two things most of us have in short supply. but i think i'm ready to try and go on a bit further now.
Mean while i've been trying to find alternatives to the slow detailed curve D&B techniques to lighte

arhbI was under the impression that frequency separation allowed you to work seperately on a tonal layer, and a textural layer, at least that's what I did with it haha.

After the initial seperation, I would use the upper texture layer to lose spots blemishes etc with healing brush, then use the lower layer to smooth out the skin tones, leaving the texture intact.

Once I had these two layers looking good, I would then try to reproduce the same finish using dnb.

Skin pores are essentially a pattern

JackAllTogHi Angie, I do love Frequency separation and how it sharpens elements above a certain size and then separatly blurs others below a certain size - which often give a more even skin tone. But i always seemed to lose texture in the skin -the pores seemed to disappear. I've been wanting to sort this out in my images for a while now;
I think i have seen what i need to do more clearly in this video at the 41 min mark for 40 secs - its the detailed multi layer D&B that I want to do as some how it giv

Tianshi_angieStuart I'm not sure if you are aware of Frequency Separation. I certainly wasn't until I watched a RetouchPro tutorial on Saturday given by Scott Alexander. Having now watched a Phlearn video on YouTube I think it looks a great tool to use, specially in your 'Fashion models' area. Phlearn have a free action to download, which does make the whole thing a great deal easier. Phlearn video - http://phlearn.com/amazing-power-frequency-separation-retouching-photoshop Hope this helps.
