I like that shot tatkinson, I didn't realise before seeing your upload, that we have our own gallery/voting/commenting etc, so I've uploaded my image into the strobist gallery for comments too.

Couldn't agree more Cheryl - I wondered when you would upload one of these to the off-camera...... thread?
BTW, as I just found out, you can upload images to the strobist gallery... if you want to...

Thats stunning Cheryl. And you are right, I hope we see work of all sorts here, from still lifes, model shoots, wildlife, even landscapes all using the flash off camera. What was the set up ?

I started including flash in some of my work as my work was (is) going a bit stale.

I've attached three images to get things moving all which uses flash in I hope a creative way (all single flash - I need to get the second flash unit working). And yes the composite image used Strobe for the main image and the apple.

Hi all
I'm doing a shoot tomorrow evening and will be experimenting with off camera flash. I have a stand, soft box etc and will be triggering my flash with some cheap and cheerful radio triggers. I've read lots of articles about metering etc and was planning to meter the sky in TV mode with the shutter speed set at 250 to find the f-stop then switch to manual and dial it in. I've also read that it's best to start with the flash at half power and slowly increase? Does that sound like the best course of action or would it just be better to just take a reading with a light meter whilst triggering the flash on the subject and setting up the camera up from there like you would for general studio lighting?
Any tips would be great!

Thanks in advance

James.
