I think the group was started by Sandgrouse but he appears to have had his account deleted.
I shall watch with interest to see what happens as regards to a monthly black and white film challenge. I can find time to take part if this gets going.

A monthly challenge would be fine in addition - I'd hate to lose the weekly one, though. At the moment it doesn't seem like there are many takers. I think things like that need a core of interested individuals to get them up and running and provide on-going commitment. Despite the size of group membership I think it is rare that the number of entries here reaches double figures. Now it could be argued that having a month would give more time, but the counter to this is that the weekly ones keep the challenge more at the forefront of the mind. Tricky.
On another topic, I notice that the group founder is now 'user-removed.' I wonder what happened there...
*Edited to add: I noticed, after posting, that this comment did not appear in the main forum, which means that the idea for a monthly black and white challenge is not being seen by enough people - perhaps a message that gets onto the main forum would be more successful.
yes that may suit everyone better
What might be worth considering is setting up a new group for a monthly challenge?
Certainly as you say it would open the challenge up to film users and I'm sure many from this weekly group would also join in.
Let's see if any other members pipe up - give them a couple of days. Give me a nudge if I don't return ie. forget
I have just joined up as a ''watcher'' as cannot see me contributing to the
weekly challenge very often.
I only shoot film / darkroom print then scan.
so to get a ''new'' subject done inside a week will be tough.
Monthly or even every two weeks would be more realistic in my view
which could well attract more folk particularly those just starting monochrome.
just a thought but a very good idea to have this group available.
where the heck has the tread gone, with this weeks challenge gone???? (The one ending today!)
If you've not done so already I suggest you post your question in the main forum? I suspect views on this B&W Challenge Group page will be minimal
Hi folks, I have just got myself a new little baby, a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD with a new!! 127mm lens. I have a question for all you film folks.
Can you recomend a good flat bed scanner please? I have been looking at the epsons and quite like the option of the wet scan. My biggest neg for the near future
will be 6x9, but may move on to 4" x 5" if I can find a decent (cheap enough) view camera. I do want to start carbon printing in the next couple of years tho'.
I suppose the ques is, can I get by with a bog standard flatbed? what do you film bods use?
Thank you in advance for replies
Hi Bill - welcome to the group and yes, please do join in - every single week (I can then slack off and skip the odd week!)
Hi all, Joined hoping that the weekly challenge will get me taking photos again, been a bit stagnant for a while.
Dodged the rain this afternoon to get some shots at lunch, so here hoping!!

Quote: I may be new here, but I have noticed that this weekly competition is getting very few entries. As a point to debate, would it not be ab idea to make it a monthly competition in an attempt to attract more entries and thus interest?
It might be an idea to put your thoughts into the forum section rather than the comments as it seems not too many people look here
If I come up with any words of wisdom I'll return (but had better do some work since that's what they pay me to do here!)

Just joined my first group. I may just hang around for a while and see what is going on.
Some time ago members agreed to two changes in rules (comments anytime, sepia toned o.k.). I've set out the amended rules in a new topic, so when setting a challenge one can copy paste the amended rules.
Buono giorno, Aldo! Welcome to the group.
A warm welcome to the group, Justwilliam. Enjoy it here!
Welcome Steve, hope you have fun here
Hi everyone , i've joined my first group!

Photos uploaded for challenges must be the member's own work and not copies, however made, of another author's work. I would have thought this was obvious.
The weekly theme is here:
Where do I find the weekly theme?
Please note that rules were changed sometime ago, allowing comments to be made before judging takes place.
Thank you for the welcome. Looking forward to the challenges et al.
Welcome to the group, Paul (Coast). Your avatar suggests you have exactly the right, er, temperament to enjoy the group.
Just a reminder I give to new members: photos must be taken AFTER the challenge is announced. Hope you thoroughly enjoy participating.
Thanks Jack - I trust my level of insanity is high enough to be a valuable member of this group
After group discussions, it was decided that Sepia Toned photos will continue to be acceptable.
Welcome to the B&W challenge group, Alda. If entering the challenge this week, please note that all photos entered must be taken after the challenge was announed. And don't go out in the dark if Scrimmy is about.
Welcome to the group, AnneB50. However, a word of warning. The insanity you've noticed is infectious. Only myself was born with a natural immunity. Oh dear! The man in the white coat has arrived.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Hopefully I'll be a good contributor )
Good to have you in the group, Phill (Animator). This week's challenge is "muse" There are clues as to what it means in the comments made in the topic comments. Please note photos for the challenge must be taken AFTER the challenge is announced. We all you enjoy the fun and banter as well as the photography.
Will do Jaw!
Welcome to the group, mike 5537. hope you have a sense of humour! Please have a go at this week's challenge which is "Muse", remembering all photos must be taken after the challenge was announced!
Please will new members note rule 2. All entries for challenges must be taken AFTER the theme is announced.
Hi there, Aletta!. A warm welcome to the group. I'm sure you'll enjoy the challenges, and participating in the fun. Great to have you!
Hi I am new to this site but I think I will like it regards and happy shooting everyone.....
Over and out
Hi davekeen. Welcome to the group. Please note that entries for the challenges must be taken AFTER the week's challenge is announced, so I'm sorry but your first entry, a superb photo, is ineligible for this week's challenge.
Welcome to the group, mervyntattoo. I'm sure you'll enjoy participation. Have fun!
Hello ! I love black and white pictures and looking forward to having a go at the weekly challenge
Uploading my first entry in this competition!
Let's see what you've got!
Just joined you fellows over here, and will be uploading a skyline later on today for this week's competition. Hello to all!
Hi Ann. Yes I've hit the Join Group button. And when I go to settings it the button option is Leave Group, so I must be there somewhere.
Ooops, I've just found me. I joined in March last year but never entered anything. Hey ho.
Hiyah Chris did you hit the "join the group" button - I don't see your mug in the membership "roster" either.
Quote: (BTW, she's out of hospital).
. . . who is?
. . . and I don't know why the group threads are upside down.
Quote: Welcome aboard Chris!
You're not going to forget how to find this again are you . . . ?
Why are all the forum posts in the Groups the wrong way round, i.e. latest post at the top rather than the bottom. So confusing. I do so like consistency.
And me mugshot's not appeared on the members' bit yet. I dunno.
I know, I know, I'll get back to the Grumpy Group. (BTW, she's out of hospital).
Welcome aboard Chris!
You're not going to forget how to find this again are you . . . ?
Hiya. I'm in. Decided I need to concentrate my mind on subjects rather than faffing around randomly. Looks Fun
I see we have some new members - welcome and join in the fun. Upload and let's see your work. It's all about love this week

To answer a question, in the past many judges have "bothered" to comment on individual photos after the judging. 03/11/2012 - 2:12 PM
Well I always tried to do so. Giving some reasons how and why I had made my choices. Eric.
To answer a question, in the past many judges have "bothered" to comment on individual photos after the judging.
I think we should stick to the rules until they are changed. We can't pick and choose which rules we observe, and which rules we don't. Until now everyone has observed the rules.Until the rules are changed by mutual consent, stick to them.
Does it make a difference if someone posts a comment prior to judging?
Would any of you,as the judge, be swayed by what another person had written? It's only their opinion, after all.
Or would you judge the shots purely on their strengths and weaknesses, disregarding what others think?
I have an opinion which I'll share with you later. In the meantime, what does everyone else think?
OK, sorry about commenting before judging is complete, but what's up with that? Who really wants to go back and bother commenting afterwards? I mean, really, what if we get 20 uploads. Does anyone think they will take the time to sit down and comment on all those after the judging is over??
Easier to make the comments as the images are uploaded. It shouldn't affect judging at all. Maybe someone could explain the reasoning behind this for me? I'm just new here.........mmmkay?
Also, might it not also be interesting to get some critiques, and maybe some modifications and make this a bit more interesting. Maybe more people would upload. IMO getting comments might also generate more interest in the group.
OK, off my soapbox for now.
I've posted the new theme, but it is showing up after the circles theme - hope you all find it.
wow my computer does funny things
No problem Jay. Welcome aboard.
ohno photos mixed up on computer
sorry will fix up
No problem. You aren't the first and most certainly won't be the last!
There's always next week.
apologies everyone, i was in a hurry and didnt read the rules properly, i have withdrawn my image,
Come on Group Members. If I can win with a Snapshot, you Photographers should have no problems winning. Eric.
135 Members, average weekly challenge entry less than 10% of membership, this is not very impressive.
Oh Yes Jack
That's one little journey I'd sooner forget. Lol
I suppose photos of hospital trolleys are banned?
The weekend starts here, and I'm hoping you'll have some time to upload something for this week's challenge.
Anything unusual/unconventional/humorous that goes/gets someone/something from A to B is what I'll be looking for, and of course it should look good in Black & White.
Hoping to get loads of entries this week.
Bit quiet at the moment.
Hello Si and welcome. The challenge this week is - New Year.
Hi everyone, just joined the group, whats the challenge for this week please??
Get well soon George
glad to hear your'e ok george. very right about ,live life to the full.
Firstly, I'd like to say thanks for picking my image, I am really grateful.
Secondly, I am really sorry that I did not set the follow on challenge.
I literally just found out I was ill & have been in hospital. If not for an annual check-up, I would have been in hospital still, and probably very ill indeed.
Of course, I could not get on the 'net, so this is a mega surprise to me.
I've been allowed out for the evening, but have to go back tomorrow for a quick check up before being (hopefully) allowed home for Xmas dinner before having to be re-admitted for another 2 weeks or so.
Treatment will be ongoing, but I expect to be taking photos (and uploading) again soon.
Sorry again, and Merry Xmas to all
Live life to the full, and enjoy every minute
Snapper would be next on the list...... bit late - just got in from bumbling around town......
Cattyal, who was the runner up? Maybe he or she should set a topic to take us over the Christmas week?
I left him a private message as well-He must be asleep!
Quote: We don't have one yet,
That would explain why I can't find it then!
I have left him a message also. I do feel that if you enter these challenges you should at least make an effort to log in to see if you have won.
We don't have one yet, I am not sure that George is aware he has won. I have left a message for him.
Do we know what the challenge is this week ? I can't seem to find it ?
Hi just joining, not done anything like this before, not even sure if I will get one in for this week's trees but I will try.
Quote: I'm new to the group, just thought i'd say hello and i'v posted a picture of a tree for the weekly comp. Fingers crossed Sam
Welcome to the group Sam - I forgot totally to look for trees whilst out today so reckon I'll be off up to the park one lunchtime next week
I'm new to the group, just thought i'd say hello and i'v posted a picture of a tree for the weekly comp. Fingers crossed Sam
Quote: This has a lot going on, but it seems to have got itself into a mess in terms of what's going on, how to find it and what to do to get involved
Hi Peter and welcome aboard!
Don't worry about getting lost or not being able to navigate the site.
I've been here three years and I still can't find half of it!
Peter (Bonvilston) - no need to be an E2 member - just go HERE and you can upload your photo for the challenge
Just joined the group. Just got into the website. Tried to set something similar up myself in the past and it is hard work !!! This has a lot going on, but it seems to have got itself into a mess in terms of what's going on, how to find it and what to do to get involved...... How do i submit images for this group's challenges. Do i have to be an e2 member to do stuff ( like so many aspects of the site ) ?
Help please !
This week it's an open challenge so whatever you think makes a good B&W photo let's see it! All entries due in before 8pm on Wednesday 11th May.
I do not know for sure, but think PETE, may have a photo for the Challenge wrongly on the B&W group site. Eric.
