Rye, diagonally

By mrswoolybill
I am confident that Ann Chown will recognise the subject, small as it is. I wonder if anyone else will?
Thanks for looking,

Bold, effective composition - works well as a square with that positive diagonal

An image which looks good from all angles and perspectives.

Marvellous crossing diagonals and the pebbles punctuate the grain of the wood beautifully, a very nice image indeed.

Love the texture. Well captured.

Thanks everyone. Looking at this I slightly regret not rotating the camera a bit, to get the diagonals hitting all four corners. But then that would be more regular, conventional. I was actually composing primarily for that pebble bottom right.
I took a series of pictures (I have at least one more to come) and I remember having some difficulty in straightening up afterwards.

Great tones and texture. I rather think that if the diagonals had hit each corner it may appear too orthodox, best as it is I think.

Another miraculous photo from you, Moira! Super compo, texture, colour and detail. It certainly deserves more than my humble UA.

Everything about this is appealing. I'm glad you didn't put it on a straight diagonal, that would have been a bit boring...this way it gives the eye a treat.

The first thing that took my eye was the detail and textures so very well captured with good colour, nice placement of the stones and the diagonal works well. I see what you mean about corner to corner but for me this works better, IMHO.

I'm glad you didn't rotate to have your lines hitting all four corners as you were thinking you might have. It is difficult to say without seeing it but I suspect this is the stronger comp.

I like the diagonal split, without it being a totally symmetrical split of the frame. It gives more tension to the composition this way - lovely textures, and then there's that positive diagonal. I have never forgotten when you uploaded images and wrote about that. How long ago was that?

One wonders how these little stones get lodged so securely in cracks. Do they roll there and find a place then get lodged more securely, or is it driven by water or wind?
