The Kelpies

By AllistairK
The Kelpies are two 30 metre high monuments commemorating the heavy horse heritage of canals in Scotlandís central belt. Designed by sculptor Andy Scott, they are situated within the Helix Park on the Forth & Clyde canal between Falkirk and Grangemouth. That canal runs from Bowling on the River Clyde estuary on the west coast of Scotland into the River Carron just beyond the park and just before it flows into the river Forth leading to the North Sea on the east coast. The Forth & Clyde canal is also connected to the Union Canal which flows between Falkirk and Edinburgh. A Kelpie is a shape-shifting water spirit and these two were modelled on two actual Clydesdale horses, Duke & Baron. They are popular subjects for those of us pretending to be photographers.

They look great lit up and against the dark sky.
Best time to see these is when they are lit up Allistair. A lovely shot. Pam
