The Pier, St Andrews

By AllistairK
After announcing his Calotype process in 1839, William Henry Fox Talbot visited his friend Sir David Brewster at the University of St Andrews. DB introduced him to Dr John Adamson to whom he taught the process. JA advanced the process and in many ways is the rarely recognised figure in early photography. Among others, he taught his younger brother Robert Adamson who formed the photographic partnership which we now know as Hill & Adamson. The rest, as they say, is history.
