Photo Analysis:

"This photo was taken during a trip abroad a few months ago. So I’m going to tell you about one of the most beautiful abandoned places in Portugal.

We arrived very early in the morning in this strange building. It was very dark and all the halls looked alike. After a few minutes of walking, we arrived – that is, me and my two colleagues – in this huge room. The sun began to rise and I could now see all the architectural details of this hall. The Irix 11mm is ideal for shooting in this place.

There was a huge mirror covered with dust. I thought, why not play with this mirror and the ceiling perspectives? So I positioned my tripod in the centre of the mirror, and adjusted the focus to infinity, opening it at f /11 for maximum detail. I triggered my camera for the first time.

The result - with the 11mm - was breathtaking. I adjusted my tripod so it was positioned at the centre of the mirror. I took six different pictures with shooting times ranging from 30 seconds to 1/40. The 11mm does very well; the distortions are nonexistent; the edges not at all. This particular photo is my first taken with the Irix, and I was very surprised with its ability to shoot with this lens. In fact, it’s more powerful than my old wide-angle lenses. It was certainly a major asset for my trip. I strongly recommend this lens for anyone who
wants detail and new perspectives in photography."

"For the past ten years I’ve been shooting abandoned buildings around Europe. What started out as a hobby has since gone far beyond that. Last year I released my third book. I settled on several European art galleries and I became part of the Sir Elton John Photography Collection."

Photo Analysis:

"This photo was taken inside the enormous chapel of an abandoned hospital. This was also the first place where I tested the Irix 11mm lens. I first took a shot with the Nikon 14-24mm at 14mm and after that I shot from exactly the same spot using the 11mm Irix. Wow, what a difference it made!

From that moment on I was really excited about the Irix. The church is a pretty dark place and very high. If you shoot from the lower floor and point upwards you will get a lot of distortion, so luckily there was a balcony that ran all around the church. The photo consists of three combined photographs, all of which were shot at F/6.3 at ISO 200. The first is a normal shot, then one taken at +2 steps. The last one is at -3 steps, so it’s really dark, but the windows are perfect and not looking enlarged. Those three raw files were combined in Aurora Pro (I switched from Photomatix to Aurora two years ago). The final result had some minor lens correction with a bit of vignetting added, but the light was so amazing no adjustments were needed.

This was also the first photo I saw on my Mac which was shot with the 11mm Irix, and the result really surprised me. When I looked at all the other photos shot with that lens I got quite excited; they were all very sharp and almost no distortion was noticeable."
