" Little Friend "

By cameracat
Although I don't go to a lot of airshows, I did attend a small airshow at Seething Airfield in Norfolk.....Not just because it's only 5 miles from where I live, But because it was also a charity event for the Norfolk Air Ambulance Service, Privately funded by the good people of Norfolk.

Our Air ambulance is called " Anglia One " and together with a dedicated crew save many lives throughout the year, From road traffic accidents to holiday makers in trouble on the beaches & broads, Anglia One is ready for action.
==========================Smile

And so to my upload from the airshow, This is as most will recognise a North American P51D, Owned & flown for us by our very own Maurice Hammond, And based just 3 miles from where I live, A regular sight in these big skies as Maurice just love flying this aircraft.....Smile

Rather than the stock airshow shot, I decided to go for the " Arty " look, an image that might take you back to darker day's, When these aircraft where not being flown for entertainment, A time when many of them did not return to thier bases, Often flown by men who where no more than teenagers, At 19 years old they became men, You lived or you died.........It was a simple as that....Sad

The Nickname " Little friend " was given to the pilots & fighters by the very gratefull bombers crews, who where mighty glad to see them as they returned to thier bases after a mission, Some with engines on fire, Some with wounded crew members on board.

The little friends helped keep the enemy fighters from finishing off the lame ducks.

So here is what a Little friend might have looked like as viewed from a big and very gratefull friend.......Smile

Thanks One & All for dropping by, As I said I don't get to many airshows, But I do like this particular show, And I have a soft spot for the old prop driven aircraft........My very first flight in a plane was courtesy of the RAF in a De Havilland Chipmunk, Yes they where still in use by the RAF at that time as basic trainers......Oh! Er! that makes me sound old........Sad

I have always been interested in WW2 History, Not for the glorification of war, More from an inside view of what it must have been like for the people who lived through it.

Ordinary guy's and gals just like me and you, Who suddenly found themselves in some horrendous situations.......Sad And many of them just teenagers, Really makes you think!

Oh! And then the history books reveal how those in high places, Considered the loss of so many by percentages of advantage.

Somebody's Son / Husband / Brother / Just another number....Sad

60 to 70 years later, Have things really changed.?

Sadly I don't think so.
