100th Upload!

By rhion
My 100th upload!
It seems a long time since Lonesome Pine and some of the people who commented on that are still around here today so MANY THANKS to them and all of you who have spent time commenting on clicking on my work, especially those who dig deep into my portfolio even now, it's been very encouraging and rewarding.
I have undoubtedly learnt a lot from many of you and doubtless this will continue.
It was a difficult decision as to what should be the 100th upload but it had to be B&W and preferably something I haven't tried before (regular viewers will know that I like to vary things a little!). This one of Loch Tay won in the end as it is one of my first attempts at stitching (in this case it was 7 pics I think) and it's a place Shonah and I love so much.
Anyway, thanks for looking! The dreaded "uninteresting thumbnail" disease will obviously restrict the audience here I'm afraidSad
Please look at the LARGE version it does help it a lot!
R

I like the panoramic view and the B&W treatment works well here. Are those Birch trees? I've heard that certain people on this website like them!

Great image, but it does need to be viewed in the large version to do it justice. Its difficult to portray fine landscape detail in 500 pixels, particularly in panoramic format.

If people take time to view the large version they will be rewarded with a superb image!
Good stitching work and congrats on the 100th upload - my next will be no 100 and I am putting it off as I just can't decide what to do!

Yes the thumbnail didn't look promising (I have been there as well), but the large version is a stunner. I'm glad I looked.

I agree that the thumbnail is deceiving as the large image is superb. A wonderful panorama and seamless too.

Simon, Gill, Nigel, Jeanie and Kate - a big "thank you" to each of you. There has to be answer to this thumbnail problem: I'll work on itSmile)
Gill - I'll look forward to your 100th. It's not easy deciding, as I say above, I wanted something typical of my style but that's not easy to pin down! Popularity was a consideration but (fortunately!!) not an overriding one....

Hi Richard!

100 uploads, eh? And the 100th is a good 'un. Have to say your shamless bit of self-promotion worked a treat! Not sure how I came to miss this one, really...

Excellent choice Richard. Birches catch the light so well. I've never tried stitching however it looks bloomin' ace to me. I like that it is slight deviation.... keep the experiments coming. Julia

Julia and Tracy - as ever, thanks for having a look and commenting.
Julia - stitching can be very effective but the panoramic format is best suited to printing not ePz!

happy 100th upload Richard Smile
This is far better in the large version as you rightly point out.At first the thumb looks like it will be out of focus but it's sharp in the large view right enough. Vwey well stitched together apart from the bottom left corner which seems to rise up at an urealistic angle.....though I am aware that landscapes can look out of proportion like this naturally somtimes so maybe it's not the stitcher!
I don't even mind the tourists on the right....or is that Shonah? Smile
rhion 17 36 United Kingdom
16 Mar 2006 11:06PM
Thank you Angie. The bottom left corner is an unfortunate mix of the lens distortion of the relatively wide-angle on my compact with the way the loch turns and the land rises - it's not as distorted as it looks (if that makes much sense!).
Shonah will not be best pleased when she learns that you thought that a house looks like her.........

Heh, well I'm a bit thick but your TADD finally brought me to this! Lovely detail on the stitch. I had to crop in on my "wentworth falls reflux" quite a bit to show some detail at 500 px. The original was a bit bigger!

I must say I do find the birch rising up dead center across the horizon a touch distracting, but that's minor nit. Falls under personal preferences!

Thanks Doug - better late than neverSmile These panoramas are a bit tricky on ePz because of teh thumbnail problem but we'll persevere!
You're right about the birch tree and I suppose I could (should?) have cloned it out. Moving to one side to take it wasn't an option due to the location and, damn!, I forgot the chainsaw again...

Very original way to attract comments.
This is very good. Reminds me of the best Ansel Adams pictures. Very good.
