With the easing of the lockdown I decided to take a days leave on Friday and booked a day in a local Kingfisher hide. Time alone with nature, the camera, and no mobile signal was welcome - even if it was hot! The kingfishers visited approximately once every 30 to 90mins for a couple of minutes each time. I don't tire of watching these fabulous birds. This was the best of the bunch of action shots I took - I still have unfinished business - my diving shots were all slightly out of focus due to too shallow a depth of field.
The hide I used is a live bait hide with a diving set up. I know many wildlife photographers disagree with the ethics of using live bait set ups for kingfishers, but as I see it the set up I use provides an essential additional source of food to the kingfisher population that has over the years enabled the kingfishers in the area to thrive. I won't enter into a debate regarding the ethics of this here (I have been lambasted on other social media platforms in the past).
Have a great weekend.
