5: the silence of books

and the silence of books

This series of images is inspired by Haiku - the tiny poems of Japan, traditionally written in seventeen syllables.

Haiku usually gain their effect by suggestion, presenting a clear-cut picture which serves as a starting point for trains of thought and emotion. But because these poems are short, they rarely try to give the picture in detail - the rest the reader must fill in.

In recent years, there has been an enthusiastic and expanding interest in Haiku-in-English. This genre springs from the Japanese form but rarely consists of seventeen syllables. What it does seek to retain is the brevity, clarity, immediacy and resonance of Japanese Haiku and, like a photographic image, to record and share a moment of seeing...

this are very good shots susie, i love the composition here with the books, the lead in drews your eyes down the row, the warn carpet and the shadows. you've also done a very intresting wright up, well done, and how true ''the silence of books''

This one is quite good. The poem and the image work very well together. A suggestion: Strangers was perfect (IMHO) in B&W. This too, might have been a different, more stark, image if done that way. Especially if you added some grain or burned the shadows a bit. Still, this is well done.

love the comp here and the repetitive pattern... agree with bill that the b&w might work too, but i think its still effective in color...

fits well with the series, well done! ads :o)
