6 Spot Burnet Moths and Orchid

By alansnap
To give you a rest from Callanish, I thought I'd upload one of my flower shots. Throughout the Outer Islands at this time of year the machair (the wild grazing meadows near the sea) is full of wild flowers and there are many thousands of orchids. One day on Barra I went to the famous beach airport and while I was there I went for a wander in the dunes and the machair. For some reason, on that day the 6 spot Burnet mMoths wee out and making a bee-line (well, uh, moth-line?) for the orchids. In this case it's an early marsh orchid.
Enjoy,
Alan

Wonderful collection of Burnet Moths - I loved the machair - lots of Cotton plants and Buttercups in Harris.
