The 911 memorial in New York. Very poignant, two massive water pits on the footprints of the twin towers, etched with the names of those who died. A large crowd but very quiet and very moving.
A white rose is placed to denote the anniversary of the persons birthday. (Version 2)

Memories... I was probably one of the last people to hear about 911, I had been out all day showing a German visitor the sights, we only heard in the evening.
In the course of that week, before and after the atrocity, she went through five different airports' security. Each time she triggered the metal detector, each time she was patted down and they decided that it was the heavy metal zip of her combat pants pocket.
Only when she got home did she find the Swiss army knife at the bottom of the pocket. This did not enhance my opinion of airport security.
