A big part of my background

By oldgreyheron
This is the Venator titanium dioxide pigment plant at Greatham. I started work there in 1972 as a chemical engineer learning the complex chloride process, trouble shooting, designing and commissioning new plant. I was there or linked with it through a sequence of changed business names - British Titan Products - BTP Tioxide - Tioxide UK - Huntsman Tioxide and finally Huntsman Pigments. (More recently the name has changed to Venator.) The people and the plant taught me all I know and all that I've forgotten about chemical process engineering. There are many, many happy memories of people and experiences that come to mind whenever I see the plant. The fact that it's there when I'm exploring the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve is, for me, just great!

Memories... A Russian friend is married to a chemical engineer, they visited us in England around 25 years ago. Driving past Teesside I started to explain the importance of the chemical industry, Boris had already identified the processes going on in all the factories...

There’s a kind of beauty in industrial landscapes that I find attractive.. A very well taken panorama.
