A Bridge too Far?

By hrsimages
The Bridge of Peace in Tbilisi, designed by an Italian architect and opened in 2010, is a very modern and high-tech structure spanning 150 metres across the Kura River and connecting Old Tbilisi with the new district.
Its curvy steel and glass canopy is illuminated at night by thousands of white LEDs. Arrays of LEDs embedded in the glass railings are triggered by motion sensors, giving the impression that the bridge lights come on for each pedestrian setting foot on the bridge.
The construction of a new, modern steel and glass bridge right in the historical centre of the town, overlooked by ruins of the 4th century Persian built Narikala citadel, where the city was first established, was very controversial. Critics complained that the bridge dominated the historic old town district and obscured architectural landmarks .
On a lighter note, the bridge has been nicknamed the 'Always Ultra' bridge due to its resemblance to the shape of a well known brand of feminine hygiene pad!

Good shot, Howard, and nice to see the colour version to appreciate the green of the glass more and its shape from end on. Peter
