A Clipper Butterfly (Parthenos sylvia) (best viewed large)

By gconant
Indigenous to southern Asia and South East Asia.
Clippers are found in a variety of colors including blue, green, brown and gold.
The white patches on the wings are consistently found on each color.
Each color is classified as a different subspecies.
They are typically found in rainforests, near rivers, and at elevations up to 300 meters.
There are 26 subspecies of Clippers.
They have wingspans up to 4.2".
Adult Clippers feed on the nectar of the Adenia plant.
Being that they feed on nectar, they tend to be good pollinators.
Being Brush Footed family, they use their two front legs for food tasting, and their two pairs of rear legs for propulsion.

With insects, Glenn…yes they can addicting….and for me it is all kind of insects, I suppose bees in particular, that I find fascinating and enjoy photographing….there is something about the world that opens up with a macro lens….a world of miniatures.

Thanks for your UA, again.
