A darker shade of pale

By mrswoolybill
Bear with me if this seems counter-intuitive - grainy, grungy mono for dainty little flowers. It's an idea that I'd had for a while, trying to capture the dark, tangled mystery of the hedgerow.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

The processing gives an old-fashioned look, which is quite complementary to the chosen subject; a light point in a sea of darkness.

It certainly works for me, Moira, an excellent result.

I really like the grainy and slightly dirty appearance of the flower, but I find the leaves perhaps a bit too bright, too explicit.... ?

Nicely done, Moira. As you say unusual treatment for dainty flowers, just the right amount of detail in the flower with the grain adding a bit of texture, and well framed by the leaves which complete the image.

A very good capture, which comes across well in monochrome. We all tend to photograph flowers in colour, but they can be just as attractive in mono, especially with your processing!

Interesting, I was looking for a slightly metallic sheen, maybe I overdid it. See how tomorrow's compares...

Quote:Sepia suits it well.

It's a Nik duotone, there's a hint of yellow added to the highlights, blue to the shadows, but it somehow avoids them merging into a true green. It's an effect that I like because it has an organic look - as cold sepia toning can produce.
Thanks again everyone.
