A Dune of Hope

By sherlob
Perhaps not my best landscape, but I find myself longing to be back at this location this morning for some reason. De Hoop Nature Reserve in South Africa has much to offer, but the miles and miles of white sand dunes is for me one of its most alluring features. I was lucky enough to stay a night in the nature reserve and this meant I could visit the beach at dawn. Because of its remote location the beach is always quiet, but as I walked a couple of miles that morning I never met another soul, and the only footprints I found were those of animals (or my own). The Indian Ocean along the South African coast is the breading ground for Southern Right whales - believe it or not there are three whales visible in this image when viewed at full resolution. De Hoop stands for the "The Hope" in Afrikaans (or so I am told). This then for me is an image of hope.
