A Family Affair

By chase
Featuring 2 of my latest purchases from my local Antiques Centre.. ( the two cameras on the right of the frame. )
One cost me all of 2.00, the other a fiver Smile A Conway "popular" and a little Rollette.
So what to put with them that makes sense ? ...of course, sort out photographs I found at my parents' house whilst clearing. My Mum, bless her, has written who the images are of on the back...yay !
All are of my distant family, hence the title.

A 3 frame HDR image lit by daylight almost from behind the camera.
Combined in Lightroom, finished in Photoshop.

Thanks for taking the time to call in.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Janet xx

P.S. there may be a short series of these Wink

Lovely retro still life here, Janet. The sepia prints work really well, and nice for you they are described on the backs. Good little camera the Kraus Rollette, used to have one with a Zeiss lens, perhaps yours has this? A beautiful display here.

It is a sweet little camera, took me a while to figure out how it unfolds and even longer to work out how/where the film would have been loaded Blush No idea about the lens though Sad

I can now go through my family tree and put faces to the names of peeps I have never either met or indeed some I have not heard of.

What a lovely still life and family treasures Janet. Love your inclusion of that Autumnal leaf - a nod to the passing of time.

Thanks all.
Dave, wonderful to have your UA, thank you so much.

The photograph on the left, laid flat is one of my Nana, you can just make out that it is of 3 nurses...I never knew she was a Nurse until I found the picture, my Nana was always just 'my Nana'. Surprising what you find out when it's too late Sad

The lens makers name is in small white letters around the rim of it, Janet. Next to the glass 👌

Wonderful Janet. I love old cameras and old photos, so this has definitely hit the spot with me. Beautifully composed as always.

Small is an understatement Dave, I had to get my giant magnifying glass out to see anything !
It says 6.3 ...miss a bit...9cm O.A Krauss Stuttgart Rollar- Anastigmat...I think Blush in gold letters.
I may be wrong though, really teeny lettering, even the magnifier struggled !

Canny image. Call me a heathen, but I don't understand the fascination with old cameras Blush. I don't find them aesthetically pleasing. To me they are just boxes that once did a job BlushBlush I will be ejected from the site and publicly stoned for this view GrinGrin

One of your very best arrangements, in my opinion, MJ.
I do envy you all the family photographs. When my late mum moved in 1999 from her house to a flat, two shoeboxes stuffed full of old family photos - all noted with names/places on the back, like yours - disappeared under the moving process and were never found. Presumably thrown out by mistake.Sad

Thanks all.
Appreciated UAs from, Lin, Sylvia, Brian, Allistair, Patrizia, Chris and Somnath, thank you guys, very complimentary.

Fab to have a GEA for this Tony, thank you so much, very muchly appreciated Smile

Now then Fiona...lol...different things appeal to different folk, put it this way, if the people that invented cameras didn't invent them, you wouldn't have one Wink and any way, I love the shapes, textures, folds in the material, they photograph so well.....stones are in my pocket Wink

Malc, that is so very tragic, memories confined to the bin, oh dear.
I have done a family tree as far as I can get but now, the pictures of the people make sense and I can actually see them. I never knew most of them, my great Grandfather for instance. The photographs are wonderful....half of the blokes look a little errrrrr poker faced to say the least and to be kind Wink
