A Family Affair II

By chase
Yes, a B&W...a bit different for me, I admit to being a colour kinda girl Smile
I don't do much B&W but I quite like this one. I did think about adding a little grain but I just couldn't do it Blush

A 3 frame HDR image, lit by controlled daylight camera left...I have a very useful blackout blind on the window.
Combined in Lightroom, converted in Nik Silver, finished in Photoshop.

I like the way the 'Conway' camera is reading the book Wink

Thanks for calling in.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

This is very unruly compared to your usual arrangements, Janet, as if a blast of air from and open door or window has blown across the table*. I do like the B&W, very in keeping with the subject.. A nice variation.

* but no doubt meticulously arranged

As James says.

Grain would change the moodm depending on how much you add of course, but older images on medium amd larger formats with slower film didn't necessarily have a lot of grain so on balance I'd leave it off here.

I've done a mod, an sepia toning might seem 'obviouis' but I've kept it subtle, just a bit of mellowness, more akin to a warmtone mono paper.
Warm tone (and cool tone) paers are not something I guess many know about these days and just think toning is toning. Subtelty it was. From memory I recall a higher content of silver bromide compared to silver chloride is what gave the warmer look.

Same here, there’s more ‘zing’ to this one. i wonder what’s written round the rim of the lens on the Rollette, Janet. Anoraks are here 😀 lovely crisp image and as you say, the Conway is reading the book!

Thanks all.
Oooo Mr Salty, a UA for a B&W ..thank you, super compliment.

Dave, I did look, with the huge magnifier glass I have I put a comment in yesterdays image....this is what I found...

Quote:Small is an understatement Dave, I had to get my giant magnifying glass out to see anything !
It says 6.3 ...miss a bit...9cm O.A Krauss Stuttgart Rollar- Anastigmat...I think in gold letters.
I may be wrong though, really teeny lettering, even the magnifier struggled !

I like the ordered chaos in this Janet. As if the photographer had to leave suddenly and the BW adds to that no nonsense urgency.

Well composed.
