A Greek chapel

By gss
Thank you all for your interest in my yesterday subject; forgot to say that the link to the book "The Razing of Romania's Past", edited by the WMF (World Monument Found) should download the pdf English Edition (WMF, put it for download), and it be worth to go through the very many images: almost all are demolished -and the author could not photograph all the destructions.

Today is a great Orthodox fest, the Pentecost (one week after the Catholic Pentecost this year), called in Romanian in 3 ways: Cinzecime - the fifty days (after Easter), official "Pogorarea Duhului Sfant" - the Descent of the Holy Spirit, and in popular speaking - Rusaliile (Whitsuntide), caming from the ancient pagan Roman fest of Rosalia, the fest of roses who took place at that day. It is considered the Birthday of the Church, hence very long church services; there is also an ancient custom : the walnut leaves dedication, because walnut leaves have a very close shape to the "flames" presents in the biblical text of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit arrived on the Apostles.
This little church was built by a Greek businessman Kostantinos Loulis, a great producer of flour and bakery, near the silo and the flour packing factory, between 2000-2002. The church is dedicated to the Annunciation, and is called also Titan after the factory name. It is located on the belt line of Bucharest near the suburban village Pantelimon. It is very nice conceived with new materials but belonging to the great Byzantine Greek artistic and technical vocabulary.
Have all a very nice Sunday
