A life as a nightmare

By bliba
A life as a nightmare

It was a quiet day, but the quiet was not pleasant, especially because the story that took place there was anything but "quiet". The barracks were small, stuffy, the washroom a nightmare. Just because you are in this concentration camp does not mean you can imagine the events that happened there. The inhumanity and horror to which these people were subjected cannot be comprehended.

They ordered me to strip naked, they took away all my things. I had nothing left. Apart from my soul, I basically had nothing.

The Greek flag, I think. This does not strike me as an occasion for flag-waving...

I can guestimate the connection Moira. There have been Greek Jews there among other people. Every year they play music by Mikis Theodorakis, who has been awarded by the state of Israel for his piece: "The Mauthausen Trilogy".

The “Mauthausen Trilogy,” also known as “The Ballad of Mauthausen” is a cycle of four arias with lyrics based on poems written by Greek poet Iakovos Kambanellis, a Mauthausen concentration camp survivor.
The Mauthausen Cycle, one of the best-known compositions inspired by events at the Mauthausen concentration camp, is popular in Israel, and has been used to promote peace and cooperation worldwide.

The ballad reflects Kambanellis’s own experience at Mauthausen, including his love for a Lithuanian-Jewish woman, as it recounts the love affair between a young Greek prisoner and his Jewish love amidst the atrocities they witnessed at the camp.

I thought that the man was carrying an American flag last time you had uploaded this bilba.

I think it is incomprehensible, man's inhumanity to man (and of course women) Pablophotographer's, tale is quite moving, and explains the connection with the Greek flag. Another good capture, Oliver, on this concentration camp.
