A matter of time

By HobbitDave
An old pocket watch I had the privilege of working on a couple of years ago. It was made nearly 180 years ago in 1843, at the beginning of Queen Victorias reign. The craftsmanship of the piercing and engraving is amazing. It was made in Coventry by Bradshaw and Ryley.
The bullseye glass is the original and the watch still it keeps very good time.
Not sure who the little female bust is, possibly young Queen Victoria? - with no tv in 1843 and only sketches in some newspapers, people had to use their imagination and ‘word of mouth’ descriptions.

Thanks kindly for the clicks and comments on yesterdays upload, they are very much appreciated and most welcome 🐈

Great set of images and what a beautiful old watch... what did you need to do to it? Are you a watchmaker as well as a photographer?

Just a hobby now and again, no major jobs, more the equivalent of a camera CLA 🙂 I admire the skills and craftsmanship with which they were made.

This is such a fascinating timepiece and how clever are you to be able to work on it. Love the workmanship that has gone into this and what a feat of engineering Dave.

Thank you so much for sharing and the Sony certainly captured the detail very well.
