A Place Less Visited 2

By woolybill1
Redundant social club, Blaydon. In fact there are two adjacent, linked I think only by this arch.Uphill is a housing estate; I presume the overgrown slope was once an access path.

No more than twenty years ago the band I was in played a ceilidh in one of the two clubs; I don't remember which of the two it was: that scarcely matters, except that it was far from being swish or plush in any way. I don't even know whether the floor was carpeted, I rather think not: more of a soulless drinking den than a vibrant entertainment hub. At least it was not one of the establishments that barred women though when it first opened it probably did . . . . .

I can relate to your description of the venue. Unfortunately, most of the ones I played in are still standing.

Thanks for the memories - have an award!

Cheers.

A male sanctuary away from the women-folk, apart from the monthly dance when you were allowed to bring the missus along.
Memories light the mind so clearly - a fine piece of work GrinGrinGrinGrin

Another great, moody shot, Bill. You bring back memories of dubious but priceless nights of our formative years. Allan

A fabulous view point, Bill. Great light and shadows.

I can remember playing many social clubs 'up North.' I only remember one of them who bared women from the snooker room though. However, we were bared from more than one club.Wink

Great play on light and shadow plus a memory of the past when these clubs were vibrant and had a great social life. Now gone!

Back in the 1970s in the band I played in, many of the clubs didn't have carpeted floors - if they did, they were posh! 😁 fine shot here BIll, the light coming through the arch makes a good lead-in through the scene 👍

Quite ethereal in some ways, like that you have chosen to look outward.

From the thumb I saw this as tumbling water, clearly not in the large version.

A scene that Philip Larkin might have made the subject of a poem. The path of light leading to the arch and the slope beyond is strangely affecting. And then there's that tree apparently growing out of the foundations of the building. A memorable image.
Compositionally Superb
