A South Pennine View

By phil99
Sorry to Nishad , Telstar and image 123 for voting on an earlier attempt at this one . Maybe a little too dark or the thumbnail does nothing . Would be pleased to know why some people look and then do nothing .Stoodley Pike is the iconic landmark that represents everything in the South Pennines and can be seen at some stage even from a considerable distance in almost any walk. The first Stoodley Pike was built in 1815 to commemorate the Peace of Ghent and Napoleon's abdication. I t collapsed in 1854 when the Crimean War started. It was rebuilt 2 years later when peace was again declared. However , it partially collapsed again the day before the end of World War 1 in November 1918.It is more than likely that it was a burial site . It is possible still to reach a balcony by climbing about 50 steps . This is a shot taken yesterday afternoon on a walk around the area. Thanks as usual for getting so far . Comments and clicks are all much appreciated . Best viewed LARGE for the extra detail . Have a great weekend.....Phil

Good shot Phil. Who says you need dramatic light to make a good landscape?

Lovely composition, Phil, with excellent f/g interest and detail, and with great depth. i particularly like the contrast between the upper moorland with the cultivated farmland in the distance - a well balanced and instructive shot.
Regards, Ronnie.

Nicely taken. The light's not great in the foreground but the illuminated hills lift it.

As for people viewing and not commenting or voting, remember that many people just look open the latest photograph in the gallery and then work backwards using the `previous photo' button. So a view without any action probably just means that they came to your photo that way and it wasn't their cup of tea. It doesn't necessarily mean that somebody was interested in the photo because of the thumbnail and was then disappointed.
