A New Year's Eve countryside walk/photoshoot with my youngest son Benjy (himself a newly fledged budding photographer) turned out to be quite enjoyable. The mild wintry weather regaled us with a some spectacular views as we made our way along the periphery of the quaint village of Gharghur. All along, I was over the moon admiring Benjy using some photo gear I passed on to him.
At one point we turned our attention to doing some close up photography, particularly shrubs and flowers along the wayside. This Wild Snapdragon (locally termed as "Papocca") caught my eye as it swayed gently in the low evening light - quite a refreshing touch of wintry colour I said to myself as I zoomed in and composed in the viewfinder. When doing close up work out in the open, I'm occasionally quite amazed at the extent of detail a photographic lens can manage to extract from the subject you are beaming on - and this is one such instance. Viewing large, you can actually admire the fine hairs on the petals and stalk as well as over the young buds further aloft - the detail is simply captivating to me at least. Hope you find the image to your liking.
Happy New Year (hopefully a much better one),
Joe
