A trip not taken #9

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

While spending time in "The County", Arroostook County, the northernmost county in Maine (about a quarter of the area of this very large state, and about a fiftieth of the population of a not very big state), where the biggest city ) of three, is probably fewer than 10,000 people, and away from the eastern or northern edge of the county, there are no paved roads and it is mostly wilderness. What people do there is logging, growing potatoes (#1), growing broccoli and growing rapeseed for canola...there is not much else. Much like Alaska, a lot of young people leave....it gets hot in the summer and VERY cold in the winter, and people who are there often are there because they choose to.

Also, we saw a fair number of "decrepit" barns....I know there are many of us in EPZ who find beauty in decomposition....of cars, trucks, boats, houses, barns...and yes, flowers, as they decompose and return to the earth. I would cite particularly the series Walt Know has been showing for a long time....

OH, but there are some who find things in these old bars----and find ways to use the weathered lumber--- and so on!

The Barn looks quite large Peter and one wonders why a large barn would have been built in the area when its so far from civilization. I do like the Mono probably suits the situation better Peter....John

I like both versions and also like photographing old abandoned buildings, each one has a story one can imagine.
