A walk through my town. 4

Mihai-Vodă former monastery, actually, St. Nicholas parish church (1590)

The church seen from east, with the altar (center) the prothesis (on the north, here at right) and the diaconicon ( on the south, here right - the deaconry room).
The prothesis, in the orthodox church is ; it contains the table of oblation where take place the office of Oblation, called Prokomedia or Prothesis). It is situated generally on the north side of th altar and in 95 % of Romanian churches, it is only a niche on the north wall.
The diaconicon, or the deaconry room or niche called sometimes also "schevofilachion", is the place where the priest or the deacon are keeping liturgical objects and clothes. It is located on the south wall of the altar, symmetrical to the prothesis.

Here, these to generally very small places (niches) are hugely developed into 2 distinct spaces or rooms, smaller than the altar apse, but, a very rare situation in the Orthodox world, crowned each one by a steeple. That;s why the general silhouette is generally balanced to east, where three steeples are giving a vertical accent.
The plan of the church is unique at least in Romania; its cause is still unknown. You could view a similar church (in Snagov) having this two rooms having steeples too and developed the same (as space proportion), but having one more tower [take a look on a previous upload of the church of Snagov , seen vrom east as here].
The church seen from east, as here, is more balanced as the other views.

A most beautiful image of this wonderful Church. I particularly like the patterns created in the brickwork.

Thanks for sharing Silviu.

It is a beautiful and fascinating building Silviu, very few windows and the few that there are
look very small, must be quite dark inside.
Wonderful write up as always.
