Acorn Box

By kaybee
Big enough for a ring, or a pair of earrings.
It is one of a handful I made for craft fairs but this one gave me a bit of a problem.
After a couple of months the lighter bit of wood shrunk by a fraction of a millimetre which meant that it was no longer a tight fit.
I was left with the choice of either making another one with the 'joints' suitable to match these pieces and end up with two boxes (either of which could end up with the same shrinkage problem) or somehow solve the problem on this one.
What I ended up doing was remounting the problem piece and enlarging the 'gap' and glueing a very thin strip of leather in.

An imaginative way of displaying and photographing a very attractive piece of turning. I am very taken with your neat solution to the shrinking problem especially as leather and wood are such sympathetic materials. A lovely image, an equally lovely piece of turning and a 'top tip' to get the day started! SmileSmileSmile
