African buffalo

By Karuma1970
Perhaps itís because they look a bit like a cow but I have heard a few stories of people, new to Africa, taking the African or Cape buffalo far too lightly. Just recently a friend of mine had to stop someone getting out of their vehicle to take photographs when they were surrounded by them.

Stories vary but some claim they are responsible for more human deaths than any other animal in Africa.

This solitary male in Murchison is adopting a typical watchful pose.

Lovely capture Mike and looks to be checking you out.

People are often so stupid around animals aren't they? Thank goodness your friend was there!

There is no end to human stupidity when it comes to animals. I blame some of it on Walt Disney. A bear sighting in one of our parks and a tourist smeared jam on his kid's face so he could get a photo of the bear licking the kid's face. Fortunately a ranger saw what was happening. The other thing is we see these on documentaries working in the rice paddies and maybe equate them to oxen. Excellent shot.
