African Wild Dog (painted wolf).

By johnke
One of the most endangered species on the planet that will soon Die off as Man's pressure is encroaching on the Land and this has caused this species to be classified RED.

They have disappeared from 29 of the 35 countries they inhabited and populate only the driest parts of sub Saharan and East Africa.

Only around 5000 of these animals still survive that's only 600 to 1000 packs of this social animal left.

They survive mostly on injured and sick animals. I think gone are the days when this Animal chased and hunted down Antelope for days in the wild, biting at the heel of an animal until it collapsed and was devoured by this Canine.

This Dog has been on the endangered species list for over 30 years and will probably never recover, Its life span being around 11 years.

Good Morning to every one and thank you fro your support comments and to
John, Pamela and Jenn, for the UA's.

Regards...John

I suspect they are not hunted for meat for humans...but habitat loss and loss of genetic diversity ...coupled with climate change is devastating.

They play an important part in the food chain no doubt for thousands of years ....what kind of ripple effect
will take place after they have gone ? Thx for the back story on this species John ...
I had no idea they were that endangered .
Cheers Walt
