(Continuing my Southampton series).
2 images, after and before recent restoration.
The Star Hotel dates back to at least the early 17th century when it appears in Court records.
The current building dates from the 18th century. The iron balcony is post-1840.
From the late 18th century it was a famous coaching inn and still retains the archway through which coaches passed to the courtyard and stables.
Everyone who was anyone stayed there during the reign of Queen Victoria, including the Queen herself and members of her family, along with the cream of Georgian and Victorian society.
Thanks to everyone who showed appreciation for my last upload.
Pamela.
