hi everyone,

hope everyone is well, im feeling jolly tonight as im not working tomorrow, yeah! its the start of my weekend...yippee!

now ive probually p*@#*d you all off...

this picture was taken as an afterthought, well i took a few, the sun was long gone but left us with this surreal glow, the colours are just as the camera took them.

its a bit dark i think, but to lighten it, you loose the colours........

tech stuff.... F6.3 exposure 2.5 secs

hope you like it though... any advise to lighten it would be very much appreciated.

nikki x

This is the kind of pix that I long to take one day, but then I'm too much of a late sleeper ! Well done - really looks just like we see where I live.

Must be a teenager, 'cos this is a sunset Wink

Nikki - try this from Simon Palmer for selective lightening & darkening - it works a treat!!

"Open the image in PS CS3.

Get rid of any dust spots, or lens flares.

Duplicate the background layer twice.

Set the first layer to Multiply, for this image I chose a Opacity for this layer of 16%, it varies depending on image.

Set the second layer to Soft Light and an opacity of 20%, again varies depending on image.

Create a third new layer, set it to Overlay mode and fill it with a mid grey (mid grey is transparent in Overlay mode) RGB to 127,127,127. I then paint white or black on this layer to either lighten or darken areas. You can also change opacity of this layer should you require it. I prefer this method to Dodge and Burn. In this instance i lightend the barn (painted it white) and also the bottom right hand corner a touch. I have left this layer at 100% opacity for this 'demo' would probably have toned it down a touch normally, but just trying to show the effect.

Thats it for the shopping work, takes 5 mins if that. On some images I can build up many layers, when one comes along this way I promise to do another B&A and short tutorial with it if that is ok with you all.

I then create a new image at A3, paste this image into it, give it a quick border and sign it

I then crop close to the border so as not to waste my precious 1000 pixels and resize it using Bicubic Sharper.

I then use Smart Sharpen to sharpen it, for this image I used 60%, 1.0 pixels and remove Gausian. Bear in mind that sharpen will additionally lighten an image in most instances.

Convert it to SRGB, I work in ProPhotoRGB if you're interested.

Please note I didn't touch any curves or saturation at all, everything I did is listed above."

A beautiful shot. I did a mod re the lightening and before I read Goggz's comment - as I said on the mod there's more than one way of doing most things

Nice work
