Albino Chaffinch

By Lillian
This unusual Chaffinch had to get in and out for any food... fast!
as the other birds really picked on it.

Version, another of it,... reference images only
but thought you would enjoy seeing something

Got the Dartford Warbler yesterday... really pleased
will get back next week

Thank you all for your comments and awards yesterday
on the portrait of the Merganser

Pretty much as human nature to attack anything different for the perceived normal.
I spied what I think was a Green Finch yesterday, a flash of bright green from tree to tree.

Lovely image Mike toldme about this bird which btw is no Albino ...Albinos are very rare in the wild Leucistic birds like this (partial loss of pigments) are more common.

Seems the birds are no different to humans........any discrepancy from the 'norm' results in bullying and getting picked on.
Lovely shot however of this unfortunate wee bird, Lillian.

Cracking captures Lillian, nice to see this too. I used to keep cage birds years ago, and was always at shows up and down the country. And the lads that kept British birds used to breed to get this type of colours and also other variants.

Two excellent images Lillian, they learn to cope, there is a local male blackbird with a white head that's been around for a couple of years, feeds when the others have scarpered.SmileSmileSmile

Beat me to it! Great example of a Leucistic bird. We have a regular Leucistic sparrow who visits the feeders in our garden, definitely quite a dominant character, so I think whether they get picked on is to do with more than just colouration. Sometimes differences can make individuals stronger - look at that song by a certain J. Cash, the one about Sue, how do you do? Wink

Well captured - I've yet to get a good shot of the sparrow Grin

Just catching up.
I have never seen a Albino Chaffinch and this is a great image. Whether it is albino or not I'll leave that to the experts but it looks like one to me.

The only other Albino Bird I have seen is an Albino Blackbird many, many years ago and that was completely white so I had no idea as to if it was male or female. It was quite large so I suppose it could have been male.

Lovely picture Lillian
