Algarve's Storks....

By Chinga
Algarve's Storks: Storks from all over Europe used to migrate to the sub-Sahara in the winter. They have flocked to Portugal in the last 20 years to the point where the population has grown and settled in. In the past the storks would fly south to Africa in the Summer, and return to Europe at the end of the Winter, however in the last 20 years white storks have begun to stay here all year round and you can see them nesting all over the high places in town... They are protected and very loved by the locals... In Silves and Portimao you get a good chance to photograph them.
Thank you to Jeff (Kojack) for awarding yesterday's rusty shots. Isabel GrinGrin

very finissimo... quizas es una ciguena de austria - en burgenland (cerca la frontera con hungría) siempre hay cantidades de ciguenas en los pueblos.... pero me temo que emigran hasta turquía y en syria las cazan y comen Smile)

zooming for flying objects at 270.0 mm is a quite a challenge, isn't it?

I've only seen - and photographed - one stork in the wild, and that was in Marrakech, it was perched high up in a nest on top of a building Smile Well captured, Isabel, the lead image has to be the winner here for me SmileSmile

Wonderful looking set Isabel. I assume they've dropped of their bundles Blush. I used to stay in a house near the old cork factory when I stayed in Silves.

Storks leave the country in September here and they gather over our house in Istanbul. They circle above us to wait for the last one of the group join them and then one of them takes the lead to fly away and others follow one after another. Fascinating in-flight image, especially the first two.
