I thought there it a problems with exposure which I have tried to address in my modification.

I'm not soo sure what message you're trying to convey here
It's the edge of a tent, in a dark wood, with a river near it - ok - but what are you trying to say with these elements?
You say it was cold, but with that strong sunlight, it actually looks quite warm and pleasant. maybe if you'd got a pan of food cooking in front of the tent and there was lots of steam coming off, it'd give a better indication?
I quite the stripe of light that catches the end of the tent
There's a lot of darkness over all - if you chop the top off a bit, maybe you'd get a lighter feel?
